After EEW Energy from Waste GmbH Stavenhagen waited two years for approval, the symbolic hammer blow was struck on the foundation stone on 10.11.2021, marking the start of construction of the new sewage sludge incineration plant in Stavenhagen.
The plant, which will treat a capacity of approx. 160,000 tons of dewatered sewage sludge, is scheduled to go into operation in several stages in 2023. It combines environmental protection and resource conservation, as the use of sewage sludge in agriculture will be reduced, thereby reducing the environmental impact of heavy metals, microplastics, drug residues and hormones.
These pollutants are safely destroyed and killed during incineration. In addition, the conditions are created to recycle up to 90% of the phosphate contained in the sewage sludge and thus recover the non-renewable raw material phosphorus, which is vital for humans, animals and plants. The plant will also generate green energy through thermal treatment, which could be sufficient to cover 80% of the city's energy requirements.
